The certified and registered pulmonary function technicians at UT Southwestern Medical Center's Pulmonary Function Testing Lab at Professional Office Building 1 provide tests to see how well your lungs are performing.

Patients need a referral for pulmonary function testing. Many of our patients are referred from UT Southwestern's Allergy, Immunology, and Pulmonary Clinic as well as other clinics at UT Southwestern and throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth community.

Services offered at this clinic include:

  • Spirometry with and without bronchodilator testing
  • Lung volumes by plethysmography (body box)
  • Lung volumes by nitrogen washout
  • Diffusing capacity (DLCO)
  • Aerosolized medication delivery (such as pentamidine)
  • Walking oximetry
  • Six-minute walk test
  • Arterial/venous blood gases
  • Methacholine challenge
  • Fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO)
  • Cardiopulmonary exercise testing (equipment is located in the University Hospital Heart and Lung Clinic at Professional Office Building 2)
